Depression is a common psychiatric disorder characterized by symptoms of persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed, variations in sleep appetite, inattention pessimistic thoughts, death wishes etc. It often affects how individuals think, feel, and handle daily tasks, leading to emotional and physical symptoms such as fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and feelings of worthlessness, helplessness etc.
It can be episodic or chronic, varying in severity from mild to debilitating.
Having said so, it’s curable with treatment and recovery is possible.
You haven’t clearly mentioned the name of treatment, but it should possibly be IV Ketamine.
Ketamine as certain sub anaesthetic doses has shown antidepressant effect. But this effect is short lived and needs to be backed by oral medication adjustments. It’s more of an acute management and this treatment is chosen to give quick improvement; that isn’t usually sustained beyond 2-4 weeks, a waning effect is seen after the last dose if there isn’t any maintenance ketamine session.
Sometimes clinically it is observed that there may be a need to readjust the dose injected, or wait a little longer as patient have shown responses even after their last dose of ketamine of the cycle.
Best judge would be your consulting psychiatrist who can help figure out line of management necessary to give utmost benefit.
