Sometimes when a person is depressed, then there can be a chemical imbalance in the brain. Antidepressants are prescribed to correct the chemical imbalance. These are not addictive or habit forming. These are to be taken under the supervision of the doctor, who has knowledge about when to start, increase the dose, taper down or stop them.
Along with medication, physical exercise can also be beneficial.
