Dear Human, I would begin by saying that it takes a great effort to express how you are feeling, and you have been able to articulate that, so kudos on that. It can be difficult to talk about how you feel especially when you are in the midst of it. It is entirely understandable for you to feel sad, lose interest, and find it difficult to take care of basic needs in times of distress. Let me remind you that it’s great that you decided to reach out and seek help.
Your feelings of loss of interest in daily activities, sadness, unable to take care of hygiene and suicidal thoughts are some common signs observed in people with stress, depression, and even when faced with traumatic events. Seeking therapy is the best way out of this as you would be able to reflect on what exactly is bothering you, identify the thought/behavior patterns and figure a beneficial way to manage this.
Here are a few tips that might help you cope better-
1. Taking care of your basic needs, such as eating an adequate amount of food is important, eating on time without skipping meals and getting a proper amount of sleep.
2. Some people also feel an elevation in their mood when they do light exercises. You can choose what you wish to do, yoga at home, breathing exercises, climbing steps, or even other home exercises. When people engage themselves in light physical exercises they can elevate their “happy hormones” resulting in a change of mood.
3. When you feel frustrated or feel stressed out, try to identify the source of the stressor and take a note of that in a journal. You can also write about the events that make you feel overwhelmed.
4. Distraction is also an effective technique when things feel beyond your control. You can perk yourself up by engaging yourself in a hobby you like reading a book but also try to involve in many more activities like taking a walk, painting/drawing anything you like, etc.
