Dark patches on underarms & neck

My under arms and neck has turned black. I was over weight earlier, now i have reduced my weight and i do exercise daily but still no improvement. I read online on some forum that this condition is called as acanthosis & the main cause for it is Insulin resistance or high sugar level in blood. What all blood tests i need to go through to check above condition?
