Coughing for any person continuously isn't normal..in your case you have almost a decade of smoking history. Smoking cause decreased mucociliary function..means your airways ability to clear off secretions and mucus decreases drastically to a normal person.. Plus there is high risk of infection due to the same..
STOP SMOKING.. OR ATLEAST REDUCE AND GO TO A GRADUAL STOP..THATS THE ONLY SURESHOT TREATMENT.. You wil prevent more damage to your lungs and hence a better life..alternatively your symptoms can be of COPD.(chronic obstructive pulmonary ds)..consult a chest physician for the same..
