Pneumonia is caused by microorganisms which are contagious. They are usually passed on from one person to the other via respiratory droplets (through air, via coughing or sneezing, or by mouth to mouth contact)
Sharing utensils or food may help in transmission if the food is infected with the respiratory droplets. When the microorganism gets access to the respiratory system, the person is said to be infected with that particular microorganism. This may result in flu, which may or may not progress to Pneumonia
