Brownish discoloration over the tongue may occur due to:
-increased melanin deposition
-Tobacco, smoking, betel nut, tea/coffee staining
-Post-inflammation
-Drug-induced
-poor oral hygiene–related staining
-Pigmented lesions that may require further evaluation
