There are 3 different types of intra ocular lenses. 1. Monofocal which correct your vision for a particular distance , usually distance , meaning you need glasses for near work. 2. Toric lenses which correct any pre existing cylindrical number so that you have clear vision for distance ( useful if you do have a significant cylinder or astigmatism before surgery)3. Multifocal , which correct your vision for all distances so you do not have to wear glasses at all. Cataract surgery is not an emergency. Do not get operated at the doctor who does not explain clearly the benefits of various types of lenses and simply shows you a menu Card with different prices. You can read the chapter on Cataract in my book simplifying eye care available on Amazon. Maskati eye clinic, Opposite Charni Road station east, Mumbai
