Hello Modern day cataract surgeries are associated with almost no blood loss.BUt cataract surgery being an elective surgery,any risk shouldnt be taken. What we normally do for our otherwise normal anemic patients is that we start them on a course of iron and folic acid tablets for 2-3 weeks,and recheck the haemoglobin.can operate if it reaches a value of above 8. Though the surgery is possible but this much low haemoglobin is not good for health and post operative healing. So please get one or two whole blood transfusion doe to raise the haemoglobin and then get the surgery done..
