Immediately wash the area thoroughly with plenty of soap and running water for at least 15 minutes, then apply an antiseptic such as povidone-iodine or chlorhexidine solution. 2. Do not take any oral antiseptic tablets — these do not prevent infection. 3. Consult a doctor as soon as possible to assess whether you need: • Anti-rabies vaccination (ARV) — usually recommended for all cat bites/scratches unless the cat is fully vaccinated and under observation. • Tetanus booster, if you haven’t had one in the last 5 years. • Antibiotics if there’s a risk of infection (for example, amoxicillin-clavulanate).
