Cast removal before due checking ?
Hi ! I had a surgery with my 5th metacarp and is fixated with a 2mm steel wire and my hand is in cast ! my doctor said it should be in cast for about 4 weeks. In theory if my cast is removed before the forth week .. aorund maybe 3 weeks what would happen? I can feel that wire keeps m y bone in place 100% even when my dr checked it it felt so strong ! I like to start my rehab asap so i was thinkgig to remove the cast at my own resposability a week earlier (rehab by using the pc mouse?)
Do not remove cast at 3 weeks as that is one of the possible ways of managing a fracture, just like operation.
Ideally bone unites in 4-6 weeks depending on fracture site, pattern and patients age.
The k-wires in your foot might be removed at 6weeks.
