Contrast given for CT can be nephrotoxic. Its not the contrast alone but also the clinical illness patient is having like heart failure
diabetes which increases the risk.
Dose , route and type of contrast also matters.
Given the current practices and precautions, contrast associated
kidney injury is prevented in most of the cases.
Also if contrast study can be life saving for example in some heart , lung or mesenteric disease, then saving life is more important than kidneys.
