Hello, my father is 60 yrs old , he has sugar .. he's on medication... we are 3 at home , myself, my parents. Me and mother take brown rice for our regular consumption. Can my father have the same ? Or white rice is suitable for sugar patients ? Obviously rice is bad for sugar people. But in a medium consumption also , which is best for him white or brown ? Thanks in advance ..

Hello dear, I'm Dr mayank B chaudhary, here to answer your query. When it comes to choosing between white rice and brown rice for someone with diabetes or high blood sugar, there are a few factors to consider. Brown rice is generally considered to be a healthier option than white rice because it undergoes less processing and retains more of its natural nutrients, including fiber, vitamins, and minerals. The fiber in brown rice can help slow down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, which can result in a slower rise in blood sugar levels after a meal. This can be beneficial for people with diabetes as it helps to prevent sharp spikes in blood sugar. On the other hand, white rice has had the bran and germ removed during processing, which removes most of its fiber and some of its nutrients. As a result, white rice is digested more quickly and can cause a more rapid increase in blood sugar levels. However, it's important to note that portion control is key when it comes to managing blood sugar levels. Regardless of whether your father chooses white or brown rice, it's important to consume it in moderation. Balancing the amount of rice consumed with other healthy foods such as vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats is crucial.
