Do you mean a wire running along the inner side of your front teeth..?
If yes, then that is the Fixed Retainer.. A fixed retainer is the preferred choice of retainer for long term stability of the orthodontic treatment.. Ideally, the fixed retainer is to be kept behind for as long as possible to make sure the teeth don't relapse to their original crooked position.. Depending on what type of correction was done earlier with braces, the retainer duration would vary.. There is absolutely no issue if you leave it as it is, as long as you maintain that area well with proper brushing and regular dental check-ups..
Next Steps
Please visit your dentist if your last check-up has been more than 6 months back. You may need cleaning/scaling in the retainer area..
Health Tips
Make sure you are brushing well in the retainer area, because the inner side of the teeth is anyways the most neglected site.. Report to your dentist/orthodontist if there is any breakage of the retainer..
