Do you mean a wire running along the inner side of your front teeth..? If yes, then that is the Fixed Retainer.. A fixed retainer is the preferred choice of retainer for long term stability of the orthodontic treatment.. Ideally, the fixed retainer is to be kept behind for as long as possible to make sure the teeth don't relapse to their original crooked position.. Depending on what type of correction was done earlier with braces, the retainer duration would vary.. There is absolutely no issue if you leave it as it is, as long as you maintain that area well with proper brushing and regular dental check-ups..

The wire which is fixed at the inner surface , was to make sure the  achieved alignment is retained.  So the wire is known as retainer. But you should keep visiting your Dentist as there is regular food lodgement and chances of caries are higher. One and half years are quite a long period and now you should get it removed . If possible kindly Upload an image of the inner surface of your teeth to me and I will let you know for sure whether its urgent or not. I think you are talking about retainer place inner side of your teeth. Then there is no issue you can keep it for long time, it is better
