Why constant flickering of lights in the periphery/ corner of the eye is a common side effect reported after having barrage laser for lattice degeneration?

The laser spot targetted on the retina also crosses the nerve fiber layer and as the tissue response to the laser occurs, stimulation of the nerve fiber layer causes the flashes. However, if the symptoms are severe, prolonged or associated with diminished vision, a detailed retinal examination is warranted.
