The point of opening of the food pipe and the stomach tends to be a little lax in babies due to which the milk in the stomach tends to regurgitate back into the food pipe which reaches the throat and may lead to cough / choking sensation . Mostly Gets okay on its own after 3 to 6 months of age .
However you can take measures to prevent it like
1. Burping after feeds
2. Holding baby upright for a little longer period even after burp has been taken
3. After feed do not put the baby in a flat lying down posture . Instead put a small pillow under the head and shoulders of the baby to get a mild elevation of about 30 degree , and turn the baby slightly to her right ( you may need to put a cushion at her back to maintain that position ) . This position helps in moving the milk faster into the intestines and also the mild elevation of head eliminates gravity and the milk doesn't regurgitate backwards
There are medications too available for this which may need to be given if the baby doesn't respond to these measures or shows poor weight gain etc
