Ayurvedic Balm/Oil for cervical spasms

2026-02-13 13:44:23
Namashkar to all Revered Ayurvedic Physicians here. I have been having spasm on cervical trapezius muscles for a long time. These have been recurring due to lifestyle, posture etc. Now when I apply Balms like Kesri Marham, Sloan's Balm or oils like Dhanwantari Rhumasyl, MahaNarayan that have karpur/ Peppermint/Eucalyptus constituents among others or allopathic ointments containing Menthol, i develop Eye allergy with burning and watering eyes from the Fumes, Fragrances of these.  I am facing eye infection again and unable to apply any oil for trapezius muscles spasm at the same time. Can you please help guide me to any balm or oil that doesn't have Karpur, Peppermint, Eucalyptus constituents? Warmest Regards

Namastey Your eye irritation is most likely due to sensitivity to volatile ingredients like camphor, menthol, peppermint, and eucalyptus present in oils such as Kesri Marham, Sloan’s Balm, Dhanwantari Rhumasyl, and MahaNarayan Taila. Avoid all oils containing these strong aromatic components. Instead, use mild, non-fragrant oils such as plain warm sesame oil or a customized Ayurvedic oil prepared without camphor/menthol. Gentle herbal lepa (paste) without volatile oils can also be considered. If spasms are frequent, a clinical evaluation for cervical spondylosis or posture-related strain is advisable.
Next Steps
• Stop using any balm/oil that triggers eye burning or watering. • Consult us personally for a customized oil without volatile ingredients. • Use warm compress (dry heat) over neck and trapezius muscles 1–2 times daily. • Begin gentle neck stretching and posture correction exercises. • If pain radiates to arm, causes numbness, or persists, get cervical spine assessment. Health Tips
Try including these tips • Maintain ergonomic sitting posture and take breaks every 45–60 minutes. • Use a supportive pillow; avoid very high pillows. • Do mild daily self-massage (abhyanga) with plain warm sesame oil. • Stay hydrated and include anti-inflammatory diet (ginger, turmeric in moderation). • Practice relaxation breathing to reduce muscle tension. Thank you

During working hours, you can use pain relief patch over the affected trapezius area. At home, apply a small quantity of slightly warm sesame oil / coconut oil & gently massage for 10-15mins. After that, use a hot water bag  for 5-10 mins to relax the muscle and reduce stiffness.
