At 5 weeks 4 days, a visible sac is a good early sign, and there isn't one special diet for fetal growth this early. What matters most right now is a balanced diet with protein, iron rich foods, dairy and folic acid, since growth really picks up after 7 to 8 weeks once a heartbeat is seen.
Next Steps
Continue your folic acid daily, eat small frequent meals, stay well hydrated, and avoid raw or undercooked food, alcohol and smoking. Please check with your obstetrician whether your current metformin needs any adjustment now that you are pregnant.
Health Tips
Watch for heavy bleeding, severe cramping or fainting before your next scan, and reach your doctor sooner if any of these occur.
