I soon will have surgery but I feel weird about it . What are the side effects of having a metal plate in your leg? and would't this heal naturally on its own with only a cast?

It depends on patient's fracture pattern,age, work profile and needs whether a fracture should be treated conservatively or with operation. A steel (SS) or titanium plate does not react while inside the body. But titanium plates are better.
