ADHD 8 year old - cannot concentrate
Hi,
My son is 8 years old is diagnosed with ADHD. We are using medicine from past 3 years and this year we thought we can try sending him to school without medicine. But he is not concentrating at all. Doctor says he should be on medicine but how long?
Please let me know is it a good idea to use medicine for this longer period?
Also is there any better alternative to medicine . I don't want him to score top marks in the class, I want him to go to school and come home finish his work and play.

See for ADHD use of medications has got strong evidence base and they remain the mainstay of treatment..What medications he has been taking you should have mentioned...Also yes Medications are being prescribed for long duration as decided by doctor/ Psychiatrist depending on the status of the individuals..With age improvement in symptoms occur when dose could be tapered...Since you want him to follow routine in a productive manner I would advise you to continue with the advise of your doctor..Quality of life will remain improved...I hope it helped.. regards
