Hello, ACL tears are quite common. However, patients can survive without it being treated.  But then there is a higher chance of early osteoarthritis if you dont curtail your physical activity.  Running or any other sports works give rise to more damages. Arthritis can be postponed by curtailing your activities. But then again, you do have a meniscus tear as well. I think this needs to be addressed. Since a combination of both is a higher risk factor for early arthritis.  Depends on morphology of the tear as well. Your whole life is ahead of you and it is not good for your overall health to curtail physical activity. I feel it's better to go ahead with the procedure. The results of the surgery are quite good. Hope this helps

Considering your age, it would be better to go for surgery in your case. ACL tear is not a life threatening condition. You can survive with the tear but there will be a possibility of laxity in the joint which will prevent you from walking and running properly. ACL tear won't heal by itself. There are high chances of developing early osteoarthritis changes in the knee joint if the knee is not operated.
Next Steps
Use long knee brace or a hinge knee brace for support.. Take analgesic for pain relief.. Start physiotherapy for Quadriceps strengthening..
