If you have a boil or stye, first of all resist the temptation to squeeze it. This only increases the infection and might leave a scar after it is healed completely. A boil is a pus filled skin infection that occurs around a hair follicle or oil gland. The causes for boils can be ingrown hair, acne and pus abscess. They can also be caused due to hormonal imbalances. Most boils heal on their own within one to three weeks but if the pain or swelling worsens after several days, or another boil appears, or if you develop a fever, you should immediately see a dermatologists in your area to get proper treatment.
The treatment of boils mostly require antibiotics but don't use over the prescription antibiotics as they are not specific to your infection and do not bring immediate relief. You need to see a dermatologist to get the boil drained (to relieve the pressure), but also the dermatologist can culture the boil to check what kind of bacteria you have infecting the follicle. Usually the bacteria in boils is Staph bacteria-and right away most dermatologists will prescribe an antibiotic for you to take that treats Staph.
At home you can Apply warm wet compresses to the affected area several times a day to speed up the healing process. If you have
diabetes or are on any medications, consult a dermatologist immediately to get the appropriate treatment
