1. What is the meaning of neuropathy?
The condition in which the nerves are affected is called neuropathy. It occurs when there is damage to the nerves that connect the brain and spinal cord to the different parts of the body.
2. How can peripheral neuropathy be diagnosed?
Apart from a regular physical examination, routine blood tests and a medical history assessment, the doctor will perform a neurological examination to assess tendon reflexes, muscle tone, sensation and posture to diagnose neuropathy.

The symptoms of neuropathy depend mainly upon the nerve or the type of nerves that are affected. The common symptoms include gradual numbness; tingling sensations; sharp pains; sensitivity to certain stimuli, such as touch; lack of coordination, etc.
