U r right ideally we should be calculating edd fro the day of conception, but none of us exactly knows when u have conceived so we take the date which cannot be mistaken, IE the first day if LMP. It is so the reason behind the fact that only 4% deliveries deliver on the edd given by the doctor. Equally correct is two scans done in early pregnancy and their mean can be taken as an accurate EDD
