Vomiting in 10-Month-Old Baby
Hello Doctor,
My 10-month-old baby (weight: approximately 7 kg) started vomiting this evening. He has vomited twice so far, with about a 1-hour gap between the episodes.
I initially gave him Rantac, which had helped during previous vomiting episodes, but he vomited again after that. About 1 hour ago, I gave him Ondem as previously prescribed by our pediatrician, and since then he has not vomited.
He is currently breastfeeding. Could you please advise:
How many times Ondem can be given in a day and what should be the interval between doses?
Should I continue giving Rantac, and if so, what should be the gap between Rantac and Ondem?
Are there any warning signs that would require immediate medical attention?
Also, I started taking Lupiheme (iron supplement) 2 days ago while breastfeeding. Could this have any role in my baby's vomiting?

Since your baby has vomited only twice, is breastfeeding, and has not vomited again after Ondem, this is reassuring. Continue breastfeeding in small, frequent feeds and watch for hydration.
Ondansetron (Ondem) should only be given in the dose advised by your pediatrician. It is usually not necessary to give repeated frequent doses if vomiting has stopped.
Rantac (ranitidine) is generally not recommended routinely for an acute vomiting episode and there is no need to continue it unless specifically advised by your pediatrician.
Please seek immediate medical attention if your baby develops:
• Persistent or recurrent vomiting
• Green (bilious) or blood-stained vomit
• Refusal to feed
• Reduced urine output (
