Vmo and vl weak

Is it possible that someone is very active in sports but still have weak vmo and vl or imbalance between vmo and vl?

Yes it is common.  Most individuals have a tight or over active VL complex and a weaker VMO.  This difference is possible due to a positional malalignment of patella  which is the commonest reason

First you must ensure that VMO is contracting properly. Long term injuries such as Patellofemoral knee pain are often caused by VMO malfunction, however some acute injuries also cause the inhibition of VMO. Consult Orthopedician for isometric contraction...
