Hello, Your baby may have an umbilical infection, which in newborns can spread quickly. This needs to be seen by a pediatrician immediately. Please don’t delay. Infection can spread to surrounding tissues (cellulitis) or bloodstream (sepsis). Neonates have immature immune systems — even minor signs should be taken seriously
Next Steps
Local cleaning (antiseptic or antibiotic ointment) Possibly oral or IV antibiotics depending on severity May need admission if spreading or baby looks unwell No turmeric, ghee, powder, or spirit application Don’t cover the area tightly Don’t wait for the cord to fall off on its own if there is pus/swelling Keep cord dry and clean Fold diaper below the cord stump Don’t apply anything unless prescribed Wash hands before touching the area
Health Tips
Red flags: Yellow or foul-smelling pus Redness, swelling around umbilicus Skin around cord warm or tender Fever, poor feeding, irritability, lethargy

This is likely a mild umbilical infection.
Next Steps
Consult physically, it needs to be cleaned and antiseptic cream to be applied
