Unfortunately type 1 diabetes is not reversible. It occurs due to an autoimmune condition or cause, meaning your own body produces antibodies which attack the pancreas which is the site of insulin production. Therefore the pancreas burns out and quits making insulin. Hence lifelong insulin is required. If blood sugars are well controlled using insulin and healthy diet /exercise, it is possible to lead a completely normal and healthy life and it minimises the risk of future complications of diabetes such as retinopathy, cardiac problems, nerve and kidney damage.
Next Steps
The tests to confirm type 1 diabetes and confirm the root cause is c peptide, GAD and islet cell antibodies. Please consult online with lab results
