Stanging of tonsillar enlargement is not a very important criteria for the treatment of infected tonsils. During childhood usually tonsils are bigger and their size regresses as age advances. If your child is suffering from tonsillitis then treatment is aimed at treating infection rather than decreasing size of tonsil. If your child is suffering from obstructive sleep apnoea then its a matter of concern and may need surgery for removal of tonsils. Just remember that presence of non infected big tonsils does not require any treatment unless child has sleep apnoea
