In recurrent tonsillitis the bacteria in your son's throat have transformed into superbugs due to inadequate dosage or duration of course of antibiotic therapy. These superbugs generate a shield of biofilm around themselves which cannot be penetrated by the antibiotics. This is the reason of your son's tonsils being swollen even after many courses of antibiotics as they only are able to kill the unshielded germs circulating in his bloodstream!
Get a digital X-Ray of his nasopharynx in lateral view to rule out adenoid(another tonsil type tissue found in upper part of throat behind nose) hypertrophy. If positive, it has to be removed too.
Unfortunately conventional dissection surgery Adenotonsillectomy is unsafe in the hands of the best of surgeons with bleeding complications that have even caused death!
Insist on your child undergoing either LASER Adenotonsillotomy or Coblation Adenotonsillotomy which is much safer almost bloodless form of surgery.
ADVANTAGES:
1. Safe (almost zero complications)
2. Short hospital stay
3. Short recovery period(3-5 days as against 3-4 weeks in conventional)
4. Relatively painless
Disadvantages: cost much more as the equipment and consumables are single use fibers & wands.
