I broke my big toe in June of 2017. It resualted in a Malunion, with a bumb at the middle joint of the toe that is constantly red. It occasionally causes me pain and is very sensitive to tempature. I was wondering what the long term effects of the Malunion may be and what the options are for fixing it.

No side effects of malunion apart from mechanical symptoms. Try: 1. Shoe modification to avoid direct contact. 2. Use protective gel/silicone pads to protect the malunion bump. 3. Ice pack application to reduce inflammation. 4. Medications like Enzomac will help.

share x-rays. correction is by osteotomy and fixation or just by shaving of the bump.
