Hi, it's very difficult to tell the exact technical details like this. In simple terms it's like a normal treadmill you do in the gym only while walking on this machine you have attachments to record your ECG and blood pressure and there are different protocols like Bruce protocol and modified Bruce protocol for the speed and inclination.
In a nut shell it starts with slow walking and depending on your tolerance and the parameters measured the speed and inclination increases. The machine algorithms can calculate what is the workload your facing for that speed and inclination and give you a value as to what is your exercise capacity.
It is done with a medical professional supervising and the speed etc depends on all the parameters as well as the patients comfort.
You can do it anytime of the day but not after a full meal. Preferable to not to eat anything heavy an hour before.
The number of minutes you spend over the treadmill depends on your parameters comfort and exercise capacity. Usually maximum 12-13 min.
The test is stopped if any abnormality is found in any of the parameters (ECG or blood pressure etc) or if all parameters are normal there is a target heart rate calculated fir a person's age, once that is reached the test is stopped
For the test to be interpretable a particular heart rate should be reached.
