Hi
Slight increase in
creatinine (dip in eGFR) is expected when one is started on Telmisartan. Upto 30% increase is acceptable as long as potassium is within normal limits.
We can’t call it side effect per se.. it is expected and acceptable. Telmisartan is necessary to control your protein leak and slow down
kidney disease progression.
What was the creatinine at the time of kidney disease diagnosis and why was it started so late.
Meanwhile you do a renal vessel doppler ultrasound (bilateral).
Repeat creatinine and potassium after a week.
And yes creatinine tends to come back to its original level after stopping telmisartan. But remember your creatinine maybe worsening as a part of disease progression.
Stopping telmisartan not recommended at the moment without concurring with your treating nephrologist.
