Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges. The meninges are the three membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord. Meningitis can occur when fluid surrounding the meninges becomes infected. Viral, bacterial and fungal meningitis have different symptoms. You'll need a lumbar puncture, X-Ray, Ct scan(if indicated), etc to diagnose meningitis. I would advise you to visit the neurologist at the earliest so that you can be examined and undergo the necessary investigations to find the underlying cause and have it treated accordingly.
