Swelling and pain in leg

He got hurt while playing football and now he has swelling in leg in the region where leg gets joined to the foot(front side), he has swelling too. Although he's able to walk, as soon as his leg is bent or turned the pain starts again. We are worried if we should consult a doctor or a crepe, iodex and some ice packs will do.
