Sudden pain in right ear

There is a sudden but sharp pain in my wife's ear that started 3 hrs back. Its a constant sharp pain. Tried cleaning the ear with an ear bud but the pain doesnt go. Can anyone tell me the possible causes.

May be she has some infection in the ear canal or in the middle ear. Kindly stop trying your own treatment and take her to an ENT SURGEON. Mean while give some paracetamol for decreasing the pain
