I had an accident in February 2021. I broke my Femur and a Rod has been implanted. I want to pursue my PG course abroad on January 2023 and for that I'm planning to remove the rod in the mid year of 2022 and then go. Can you please suggest how much time should I keep the rod inside.

Share xray. Any trauma implant can be removed at 1 year from surgery provided bone has healed.

Removal is your choice, doesn’t matter if it requires surgery again. Once the implant serves it purpose, it can be taken out safely.

Don't go for another surgery to remove the rod. It's ANOTHER SURGERY! Means all the risks of every surgery and anesthesia again? Implants are made to be inert in the body for life. Unless there is a specific problem with your implant which warrants removal it's futile to go for it. Good business for the hospital to earn but not a necessary surgery for you.

1.5 yrs is very less time to remove the rod Keep it for at least 2 years provided fracture has united well. Having a rod inside isn't a barrier as such for your travel / studies.
Health Tips
Forget it and move on
