Pain while passing stool is not normal. Constipation itself can cause pain while passing stools and it is one of the the most common cause in children. Hard stools can injure the lower bowel and cause pain. If the pain is mild give fibre rich food and plenty of oral fluids. And if the pain is persisting even after the constipation settles completely, child should be evaluated properly. Direct physical examination will be necessary.
