It sounds like you are experiencing reduced grip strength and perception of weight due to your cervical issue. This is a common symptom of cervical radiculopathy, which is caused by compression or irritation of nerve roots in the neck region. To address this issue, it is important to manage the underlying cervical issue. This may involve physical therapy to strengthen the neck muscles and improve posture, as well as medication to manage pain and inflammation. Additionally, occupational therapy can help you develop strategies to perform daily activities with reduced grip strength. This may include using assistive devices such as grab bars or modified utensils, and learning proper lifting and carrying techniques. In some cases, nerve conduction studies may suggest a specific nerve or muscle is being affected by the cervical issue. In these cases, a procedure called a nerve root block or radiofrequency nerve ablation may be recommended to target the specific nerve and provide pain relief.
