I have had a circular dark brown mole on my leg since childhood, which has very gradually increased in size from a pin head to about 5mm in diameter. The skin over the mole has started to look funny and sheds periodically and there's a mild occasional tingling or stretchy sensation around the mole. Could this be malignant?

According to your description, no it's not seems a malignant, Mild itching can be there as seasonal variations Increase in size may be as you growth it happens Picture will clarify further.
