Should i remove plates?
Hi, I recently met with an accident and suffered fracture in right ankle and left wrist. Right ankle was stabilized with 6 hole 1/3rd tubular lcp plate and screw and two cancellous screw and washer. Left wrist stabilized with 3 hole DVR plate (Zimmer). Had my surgery beginning of April. Is it advised to remove the implants or to keep them. Please suggest your recommendations. Thanks
There is no reason to reMove the implants, they can be kept there. The only reason to reMove the implants will be if there is pain associated with the implants or if there is evidence of infection.
Either way, plates are kept for a minimum of 6-12 months before removing them. When metalwork is removed, there is still a risk of surgical complications. Please remember that.
