Most constipation cases at this age are functional constipation related to stool withholding, diet, low fluid intake, or painful hard stools. Duphalac may take a few days and sometimes dose adjustment or longer duration treatment is needed under pediatric guidance. Continue fibre-rich diet, adequate water, fruits like papaya/pear/prunes, and regular toilet sitting habit after meals. Excess milk/junk food may worsen constipation in some children. Pediatric evaluation is advised if there is poor weight gain, vomiting, abdominal distension, blood in stools, severe pain, or if symptoms persist despite treatment, as examination and occasionally further tests may be required.
