Ankylosing spondylitis affects spine and hips mainly. What remission are you referring to? Once hips are affected it usually ends up in total hip replacement. Spine affection causes stiffness.  Taking medicines regularly and visiting for follow ups will keep the disease progression in check. You may need to alter medicines after few years or months if their is tolerance to it.
