Rabies vaccine

2025-05-28 03:04:21
I had a cut in my finger with bleeding and the bleeding stopped,i fed a street dog biscuit and while the dog picked the biscuit it slightly licked the area where i had the cut,my doctor advised to take rabies vaccine to be on safe side,So i had gone to a nearby hospital and they injected Thrabis vaccine in the buttocks and advised to get next doses on 7th and 21st day as booster , heard that injecting in gluteal is not effective, need suggestion on next course of action, should I consider the existing course as invalid and get injected again immediately or should I continue with my next dose via the deltoid in 7th and 21st day,any risk?

Yes: injecting rabies vaccine into the gluteal muscle is NOT recommended. WHO and CDC guidelines specify: 1) Intradermal (ID) or intramuscular (IM) into the deltoid is the correct method. 2) Gluteal region should be avoided because fat can impair vaccine absorption → ineffective protection
Next Steps
Since your first dose was given improperly, it's not considered valid. You should start a new course, and this time correctly via deltoid (IM).
Health Tips
If you insist on keeping to the previous schedule (7th and 21st), you should get a proper Day 0 dose today in deltoid, and your doctor might adjust the rest accordingly. But I recommend restarting.

In gluteal reason  not advisable as it may cause  limping  of glb syndrome,  efficacy  no problem. Now onwards to be taken in deltoid reason. Dose is 1 ml. New scam Lot of person inject only  0.25 or 0.5 saying  depends  on severity of wound WRONG. EVERY ONE NEED 1 ML.

Yes, rabies vaccine shouldn't be administered on the gluteal area. It should be administered on the deltoid only. Please go for a fresh course of vaccination .
