Progesterone supplements in pregnancy

Hi Doctor, Till when do we need to take the progesterone supplement during pregnancy? Also i want to know why is it necessary? I am 17weeks pregnant. My gynae has prescribed HALD SR 200 vaginally. It doesnt get dissolved and causes discomfort. She has prescribed it for 1 more month. Thanks for your time and patience.
