Peakflow mtr or pulmonary function test?

I have been using peak flow meter to check my lung capacity every week for my interest It shows 350 to 400(L/M) every time in green line!! I am feeling OK,but for safe side,I want to check lung capacity test for better results to keep my lungs safely, I am very much concern about my lungs...Recently I have been diagnosed with bronchitis with thick phlegm...from that time onwards,I am very much care about lungs . Is checking lung capacity by "peak flow meter" every week is better?? Or else (pulmonary function  test) is must for lung functions?? Please give me your valuable answers sir/madam

Hi. I understand your concerns. Peak flow is only for monitoring and to detect any acut changes. Pulmonary function test should be done atleast once a year if you are diagnosed with bronchitis

Peak flow meter is used for detecting changes or trends in patients asthma control and look for airflow limitation. However, it is less reliable, hence spirometry/ PFT is required to confirm or exclude airflow limitation. PEF is not useful for patients of  acute or chronic bronchitis.

You do not need to check your lung capacity every week. Get a PFT, if your are concerned about lung capacities.

Peak flow rate is good tool for Monitoring response to treatment and Spirometry ((PFT) is for diagnosis whether it is asthma or bronchitis. Get yourself properly diagnosed first.
