For Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), exercise plays a key role in maintaining mobility, preventing contractures, and slowing muscle weakness progression. However, exercises must be gentle and supervised, as over-exertion can worsen muscle damage.
Next Steps
Join regular physiotherapy-guided online rehab sessions focused on safe strengthening & stretching. Get a complete physical evaluation to design a customized plan based on current muscle strength and functional level. Work with a multidisciplinary team including a physiotherapist, respiratory therapist & nutritionist.
Health Tips

For Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), focus on gentle stretching, low-intensity mobility, hydrotherapy/swimming, light cycling, and breathing exercises. Avoid heavy weights, running, jumping, or any high-intensity strengthening. Diet should be balanced, with moderate protein, anti-inflammatory foods, calcium + vitamin D, omega-3, and high fiber to maintain healthy weight and support muscle and bone health.
Next Steps
Meet a physiotherapist who understands DMD so they can design a gentle, personalised exercise routine. Begin with daily stretching and slowly include safe activities like swimming or light cycling a few times a week. It is also helpful to speak with a dietician who can guide you on a balanced diet that maintains a healthy weight and supports bone and muscle health. Regular check-ups with your doctor for heart, lung, and vitamin levels will ensure overall stability and early detection of any concerns.
Health Tips
Avoid heavy workouts or fast, high-impact movements, as these can damage weak muscles. Always exercise gently and stop if you feel pain, tiredness, or difficulty breathing. Water-based activities are usually the safest because they reduce pressure on the muscles. Stay well-hydrated, eat fiber-rich foods for smooth digestion, and use proper supportive footwear to prevent slips and falls while moving around.

Online exercises classes are not suitable as the exercises are suggested depending on the condition. Consult in person with nearby physiotherapist for proper assessment to get proper exercises suggestion.
