Right balance of carbs n proteins to be given, along with lot of fluids to be taken throughout the day.
Give him recipe made from whole cereal products like whole wheat flour, oats, millets, etc.
Give him homemade milk shakes and smoothies with fruits, to gain energy , milk intake and vitamins and minerals from fruits with a fluid intake too.
