Hi, my father has recently been diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome RAEB-I. The only symptoms he had was bleeding due to ulcers which gave a sign of dip in platelets. The first diagnosis was thought to be ITP & treatment was given. But later it was told to be MDS. Please help in how can the same be treated. Plat 4000, WBC - 5.8 but fluctuating. Haemoglobin - 10-11.

Get opinion of hematologist or medical oncologist to get further opinion about treatment which essentially is. Chemotherapy but what type will be decided based upon bone marrow results, chromosomal studies, age and general condition of patient.
