Miscarriage

My partner is currently 31 years old. She was 17 years old in mid 2012 when she had a miscarriage. She miscarried when she was in her second trimester of her pregnancy. It was the 5th month of pregnancy. She said she had this miscarriage due to a combination of factors which included severe emotional and mental stress, drinking and smoking sometimes, and also due to fibroids. Please mainly explain me about the fibroids part. How do fibroids affect pregnancy and is miscarriage possible because of it? Especially in the 5th month of pregnancy. I heard it is rare for 17 year old girls to have uterine fibroids. And what could be the cause?

Fibroids can genuinely contribute to a miscarriage, especially if they sit inside your uterine cavity or are large enough to limit the pregnancy's growing space and affect how the placenta attaches. Fibroids in a 17 year old are uncommon but do happen. The stress, smoking and drinking around that time were likely added risk factors rather than the whole explanation.
Next Steps
A current pelvic ultrasound would show if any fibroids are still present and where they sit, which matters for planning any future pregnancy.
Health Tips
Please see a gynaecologist in person with this history, who can review any old scans and assess your actual risk now.
